How Spies, Documentation, Secret Sources, and Determination Saved Chiropractic

Carl Cleveland, DC, Louis Sportelli, DC, Howard Wolinsky

Learn what you don’t know about the struggle for parity, seen through the lens of chiropractic history, and why you can’t coast now. Anyone who graduated after 1992 doesn’t know that we are where we are today because of what happened then. Look back to see how the chiropractic profession took on the AMA, changing the profession and access to chiropractic care. Quantum change is coming with the transition to value-based care, which will present challenges in the future to ensure inclusion and parity as healthcare continues to change. Chiropractors learning from the past will be better prepared for the challenges of the future.

Learning Objectives

  • Contrast the public’s access to chiropractic care before and following the Wilk v. AMA litigation.

  • Discuss the impact of the litigation on opportunities for chiropractors and chiropractic students.

  • Apply the lessons of the past to current and future challenges facing the chiropractic profession.
